Edward Eugene Smith, Sr.

Edward Eugene Smith, Sr., 62, of Thurmont, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday, October 5, 2025.

Born June 27, 1963, in Frederick, he was the son of Beverly Hoke of Cascade, MD, and the late Francis E. “Smitty” Smith.

Ed was a graduate of Catoctin High School and was employed with Sunshine Management Corporation for 34 years. He was an active member of Woodsboro American Legion Post 282 and the South Mountain Rod and Gun Club. Known for his mechanical talent and resourcefulness, Ed could fix just about anything. He had a lifelong love for his Chevy trucks, fishing, hunting, and all forms of racing. He especially enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and cherished time spent with his family and friends—often with an ice-cold Coors Light in hand.

He is survived by his children, Deanna Smith and spouse Charlie Perella, Kaylee Smith, and Edward Smith, Jr.; his spouse Robin Wilhide Smith of 39 years; grandchildren, Aliannah Smith, Colton Lynch, Ryleigh Perella, and Heaven Baskerville; and siblings, JoAnn Kerns and partner Wally Boggs, Robert “Bobby” Smith and partner Patti Swakopf, and Kristin Davis and partner Joey Sweeney.

He was predeceased by his grandparents, Lloyd E. Hoke and Margaret Anders Hoke; father, Francis Smith; and brother-in-law, Wayne “Smoke” Kerns.
